| Lincoln Heights/Richardson Dwellings

The District, in collaboration with the residents of the Lincoln Heights and Richardson Dwellings neighborhood, initiated a process to plan for and implement the revitalization of the DC Housing Authority’s property and the surrounding Deanwood neighborhood in Ward 7. The Lincoln Heights/Richardson Dwellings neighborhood is generally bounded by East Capitol Street to the south, Hayes Street including Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue to the north, 48th Place to the west and 57th Street to the east.
In late 2006, the DC Council adopted the The Lincoln Heights/Richardson Dwellings New Community Revitalization Plan* Consistent with the New Communities Initiative, the goal of this effort is to transform the public housing development and its neighborhood into a mixed-income, mixed-use community. In this new community, residents will have access to high quality housing options affordable at all income levels and to the human services necessary to help prepare them to take advantage of the new economic opportunities and changes that are coming their way.

There were many Summer Successes* in Summer 2008. Congratulations to all the New Communities Partners that helped make this summer so successful, and congratulations to residents for attending the summer events.
During the summer, important progress also occurred with the Public Safety Committee which completed an important Public Safety Special Operations Strategy. The Strategy covers the months of July through September 2008 with the hope of making it year-round. As part of the Special Operations Strategy, residents should observe more MPD and DCHA officers on both the Lincoln Heights and Richardson Dwellings properties on foot, in cars and on scooters/segways. The Advisory Council will receive a summary of the results of the Special Operations Strategy at the October 6th, 2008 Advisory Council Meeting. Meanwhile, to report crime in the area, please utilize these Public Safety Contact* numbers.
Events for September can be found on the September 2008 Calendar*.
