| Southwest Waterfront

The Southwest Waterfront is a 47-acre site along the Washington Channel that stretches from the historic Fish Wharf to Ft. McNair. The District is negotiating with a team of developers to redevelop the site. The redevelopment program will follow the Southwest Waterfront Small Area Plan, approved unanimously by the DC Council in 2003. The plan calls for a true urban destination that mixes maritime activity and commerce with culture and housing to create a vibrant neighborhood within easy walking distance to the National Mall. The vision includes restaurants and shops with new residences located above, a new hotel, a cultural anchor, marinas, 14 acres of parks and open space, and an expanded riverfront promenade anchored by major public plazas and new piers to increase public access to the water.
