| Anacostia Riverwalk

Narrative Description In the spirit of creating beautiful public spaces along the riverfront, the District is pursuing the development of the Anacostia Riverwalk, a 20-mile network of waterfront parks and trails extending along both sides of the Anacostia River from the National Arboretum to the Tidal Basin and from Bladensburg to Oxon Cove. the Riverwalk will connect and bring to life 1,200 acres of green space along the river - the Anacostia River Park system - including more than 100 acres of public parks. The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) and the District Department of transportation (DDOT) are coordinating this project with the National Park Service. As a continuous trail system linking public parks, plazas, and neighborhoods to the Anacostia River, the Riverwalk represents a scenic way to experience world-class waterfront destinations that the District offers.
