| Anacostia Gateway
Narrative Description
The Anacostia Gateway is the first new commercial construction in Historic Anacostia in 15 years. Located at the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Good Hope Road, SE, the Anacostia Gateway will serve as the northern entrance to Historic Anacostia. The project brings much-needed investment and new employment opportunities to this historically underserved area of the District.
Just a few blocks from the Frederick Douglass home, a national historic landmark, this three-level, mixed-use project includes more than 63,000 square feet of first-class office and retail space East of the River. The building provides space for street-level retail and restaurant, uses that are important to the local community. The building has a green roof – one of the first green building features on a building in Historic Anacostia.
The project is the result of a partnership between the private sector, nonprofit organizations and the District government. The Department of Housing and Community Development will serve as the project’s anchor tenant. The Anacostia Gateway is adjacent to a 300,000 square foot office project the District is planning on the same block.
