Tenley-Friendship/Janney Elementary Redevelopment

Project Summary
The Tenley Library/Janney Elementary School development site is located on the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Albemarle Street, NW. This development site, which is located across from the Tenleytown - AU Metrorail Station, offers the unique opportunity of a smart-growth, transit oriented-development; bringing market-rate and workforce housing to the area while helping fund the improvement of the Janney Elementary School.
Development Update
Phase I of the Tenley/Janney Elementary School redevelopment is currently underway. The District of Columbia Public Library (DCPL) is currently moving forward to complete the design and construction documents for the new Tenley-Friendship Neighborhood Library. The library, which is expected to open towards the end of 2010, is being designed to accommodate future development above and around the facility.
The Office of Public Education Facilities Modernization (OPEFM) will substantially accelerate efforts to modernize and expand Janney by engaging an architect by June, 2009. Modernization work could begin as soon as December, 2009. OPEFM's plans had previously called for work to begin in 2014.
