Narrative Description

The transformation of the site at 6425 14th Street, NW in Ward 4's Brightwood neighborhood is part of the District efforts to expand mixed-income communities, provide greater housing options for local residents, and revive a building long regarded as an eyesore in the area. The District purchased the property for $3 million in the spring of 2008.

With Rock Creek Park to the west, Walter Reed Army Medical Center to the north, Georgia Avenue to the east and Military Road to the south, the four-story building has been vacant and unused since the 1980's until recently, when the District moved forward with the redevelopment of the 29, 856 square-foot site into an apartment building.

Along with interior and exterior renovations, the redevelopment plan calls for 26 apartments, 14 of which will be reserved at affordable rates. Additional amenities will include a community room, roof deck, energy-efficient aluminum windows, and an elevator, in addition to the renovations of single-space parking garages on the ground level.

Development Partners

The District has chosen Blue Skye Development to redevelop the property.
