Funds Available for Neighborhood Commercial Development

(Washington, DC) The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development today announced a notice of funding availability* for the Commercial Development Technical Assistance Program (CD-TAP), a component of reSTORE DC. There will be $400,000 in matching grants to assist neighborhood business districts. CD-TAP provides expertise from independent consultants or District government agency staff for projects or activities that help to revitalize neighborhood business districts.

Nonprofit organizations, excluding designated DC Main Streets districts, operating in the District of Columbia whose goals include the economic revitalization of neighborhood business districts are eligible to apply for CD-TAP. Funds will be made available in April and September of each year. Awards will range from a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $25,000. Applicants will be required to match every $2 of CD-TAP funding with $1 toward the project cost. Awards will be made according to the following four categories:

  • Organization
  • Economic Restructuring
  • Design
  • Promotion
The first round of applications for CD-TAP are due Monday, September 9 at 5 pm. Applications should be mailed or delivered to reSTORE DC, 441 4th Street, NW, Suite 1140N, Washington, DC 20001.

The reSTORE DC initiative is designed to promote and market traditional neighborhood business corridors, improve the appearance and economic health of neighborhood business districts, and help strengthen organizations engaged in revitalization activities. reSTORE DC will foster partnerships among the District government, civic and professional organizations, residents, business owners and managers to facilitate commercial growth throughout the District. The other three components are: DC Main Streets, Commercial Property Acquisition and Development Fund, and the Small Business Development Program.
