There's Money Available for District Businesses

(Washington, DC) Today, Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Eric Price announced a free seminar to connect businesses with below-market interest financing opportunities. The free seminar, "Financing Your Business with Enterprise Zone Bonds," is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7, 2003 (full details below).

"With all the economic uncertainty in the world, EZ bonds are a way for qualified institutions to grow and expand their operations—and another way for the District to support small and large businesses across the city," said Price

About the Seminar
The seminar is part of the city's effort to connect business with financial resources, and create neighborhood-based commercial and residential development. During the seminar, bond attorneys, financial analysts, bankers and DC Revenue Bond Program staff will discuss the mechanics and financial benefits of tax-exempt bond financing.

The session is co-sponsored by Columbia Equity Financial Corporation, Allfirst, Bank of New York, and the law firms of Reed Smith and Hunton & Williams. DMPED is planning future seminars on:

  • Higher Education and Health Care
  • Commercial Development (tax increment financing, special assessment districts, PILOT and other commercial initiatives)
About the Revenue Bond Program
In 1998, Congress authorized the award of tax incentives designed to encourage capital investment in the District, including Enterprise Zone Facility Bonds of up to $15 million per project. Since 1998, the District has helped 11 businesses obtain more than $98 million to acquire, renovate, expand, and equip their facilities with EZ Facility Bonds.
