Turning Blight into Homeownership: Home Again at Work
Home Again is designed to stabilize neighborhoods by removing blight and creating more affordable housing opportunities. Through Home Again, the District acquires vacant and abandoned properties and sells them to developers who renovate them into quality, affordable homes. A goal of the Initiative is that 30 percent of the units that developers renovate through Home Again, be sold to low- and moderate-income families. Developers must also provide access to pre- and post- home purchase counseling.
Since January 2002, Home Again has helped convert more than 320 formerly vacant properties back into productive reuse by encouraging the owners to rehabilitate the property or renovating the property into a home.
