Arts Commission Makes Funds Available For Cultural Organizations

(Washington, DC) The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH), with assistance from the federal government, announced the availability of funds today for support of improvements to arts and cultural facilities in the District of Columbia. The funds are being made available through the DC Main Street Arts Initiative, a partnership between the DC Arts Commission and the federal government. The deadline for applications is Thursday, March 3, 2005 at 7:00 pm. Download a grant application by visiting www.dcarts.dc.gov.

"This grant program is in keeping with Mayor Williams' mandate to insure facility development throughout the city, including our neighborhoods," said Tony Gittens, the Arts Commission Executive Director.

"This program provides the brick-and-mortar support that cultural institutions need, while heightening the importance of the arts to our city's vitality and economic well-being," said Arts Commission Chair Dorothy McSweeny.

The awards will help finance the improvement, expansion, and rehabilitation of buildings owned or leased by museums, galleries, theaters, and other nonprofit institutions. This funding is intended to ensure that facilities are safe, comfortable, and efficient, so that arts groups may expand audiences and enhance their art form. For more information, call (202) 724-5613.
