DC Sports and Entertainment Commission (DCSEC) Holds Meeting on Contracting and Employment Goals On New Ballpark Construction

(Washington, DC) The DC Sports and Entertainment Commission (Sports Commission/DCSEC) announced today that construction for the new Washington Nationals ballpark is meeting its contracting and employment goals as set by Mayor Anthony A. Williams and the DC City Council. Through the end of June, approximately $212 million has been awarded for construction subcontracts, supplies and professional services. Of that amount, $108 million has been committed for Local, Small and Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (LSDBE’s).

“These numbers are significant, not only as proof of the Sports Commission’s commitment to ensuring that local businesses participate in a meaningful way on this project, but also for the diligent efforts of our construction manager, Clark/Hunt/Smoot. They have worked closely with our staff from the start to identify subcontract partners and have been persistent in making sure these contracts get done,” said Allen Y. Lew, DCSEC Chief Executive Officer.

In addition to the 50 percent goal for LSDBE contracting, 51 percent of all new hires for construction jobs and all new apprentices will be DC residents. Greg Colevas, Executive Vice President of Clark Construction Group, LLC, said "Along with Hunt Construction Group and Smoot Construction Company of Washington, DC, our joint venture partners, we are moving ahead with construction on the Washington Nationals' new ballpark. Site demolition is complete while excavation and pile driving are underway.”

“The Sports Commission, Clark/Hunt/Smoot and all of our partners have worked through a number of obstacles to keep to the tight construction schedule for the ballpark. This project is perhaps more complex than just about any other construction project in the District but we are determined to finish on time and within budget," said Lew.
